Unacceptable Losses

It was a very ordinary day, the day of the earthquake. Trip to Santa Cruz for errands, naps, planning for dinner, Sweet mundane ordinary life--a life the next day I thought I might never reclaim.  One second I was sitting on the couch thinking about what was in the pantry, and the next the couch became a bucking bronco as bombs whistled and exploded outside. A part of me instantly registered what was happening and took action, while another part seemed to watch,filled with the slow-motion horror you might expect in a car crash of a fall off a cliff, but not in the ordinary confines of your own home.
